01/13/12: Psalm 101

Psalm 101
Of David. A psalm.

This is about walking blamelessly and shunning evil.

Verse Observation Interpretation Application
1I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will sing praise.
2I will be careful to lead a blameless life—
when will you come to me?
I will walk in my house
with blameless heart.
3I will set before my eyes
no vile thing.
The deeds of faithless men I hate;
they will not cling to me.
4Men of perverse heart shall be far from me;
I will have nothing to do with evil.
5Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret,
him will I put to silence;
whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart,
him will I not endure.
6My eyes will be on the faithful in the land,
that they may dwell with me;
he whose walk is blameless
will minister to me.
7No one who practices deceit
will dwell in my house;
no one who speaks falsely
will stand in my presence.
8Every morning I will put to silence
all the wicked in the land;
I will cut off every evildoer
from the city of the Lord.
This is a psalm by David. Here he basically says that he shuns evil and does good. He even says that "I will walk in my house with a blameless heart." I've always thought that this was a bit too much, saying that oneself is blameless. But even Job did this. They are, after all, men commended by God. David was "a man after God's own heart," while Job was a man that pleased God and "said right things about Him." But to say that they were blameless, or perfect in some translations, seems contradicting with Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

At least, surely we can say that David was not blameless. He had his fair share of sins, having many wives (even foreign ones) and stealing Bathsheba from Uriah the Hittite. What seems different from him, as far as I can see, is that he always repented from his sins.
We should repent when we sin.Repent!

Feel free to correct me if there is anything wrong in my understanding of the Bible. I am not a Bible scholar or anything, I'm just studying the Word of God.
