A praise to the Lord for His salvation that has reached to all the ends of the earth.
Verse | Observation | Interpretation | Application |
1Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. 2The Lord has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations. 3He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. | The paragraph praises the Lord for his works, specifically his salvation. It also says that "the Lord has made his salvation known... to the nations" and that "all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God," which agrees with Psalm 97. Now, the term "ends of the earth" seem to indicate a flat earth. But from this context, it means "the whole world", which is the same with v.2. Also take note that this is a psalm, a song. The term "ends of the earth" is figurative. It is describing the earth from man's viewpoint. | Praise the Lord through song because of his works and of his salvation.
4Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music; 5make music to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing, 6with trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn— shout for joy before the Lord, the King. | The psalmist instructs to "shout" for joy. With trumpets and blasts of ram's horn, which is very noisy. I say that modern 'noisy' music can still be worship to God, given the right attitude and heart. | Praise the Lord!
7Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it. 8Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; 9let them sing before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity. | Again, inanimate things were "let" to sing and praise the Lord. Obviously, rivers don't have hands. Not everything here is literal. This is a psalm and the author is allowed to use figures of speech. |
Feel free to correct me if there is anything wrong in my understanding of the Bible. I am not a Bible scholar or anything, I'm just studying the Word of God.
