12/22/11: Psalm 92

Psalm 92
A psalm. A song. For the Sabbath day.
Perhaps this is one of the songs they usually sing during worship.

Verse Observation Interpretation Application
1It is good to praise the Lord
and make music to your name, O Most High,
2to proclaim your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
3to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp.
It is good to praise the Lord day and night. They used ten-stringed lyre and harps back then. It is good to praise the Lord moment by moment.
4For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord;
I sing for joy at the works of your hands.
5How great are your works, O Lord,
how profound your thoughts!
6The senseless man does not know,
fools do not understand,
7that though the wicked spring up like grass
and all evildoers flourish,
they will be forever destroyed.
8But you, O Lord, are exalted forever.
v.4-5 It is good to praise the Lord BECAUSE of His great works and thoughts. v. 6-7 Evildoers will be forever destroyed, but fools do not understand this.
9For surely your enemies, O Lord,
surely your enemies will perish;
all evildoers will be scattered.
10You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox;
fine oils have been poured upon me.
11My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries;
my ears have heard the rout of my wicked foes.
The Lord's enemies will perish (v.9) forever (v. 7). The Lord has exalted the writer's horn (symbolizing strength) and fine oils have been poured on him (this could refer to a ritual of anointing kings, which could make the writer none other than King David. The victories at v.11 further increases suspicion).
12The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13planted in the house of the Lord,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green,
15proclaiming, “The Lord is upright;
he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”
The righteous will be blessed even until old age, proclaiming "The Lord is upright" (v. 12-15). Since the righteous will proclaim that "The Lord is upright... and there is no wickedness in him" it can be said safely that there is no wickedness in the Lord.The righteous will be blessed even until old age. There is no wickedness in the Lord.

Feel free to correct me if there is anything wrong in my understanding of the Bible. I am not a Bible scholar or anything, I'm just studying the Word of God.
